Privacy Policy
Your privacy is of utmost importance to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Helios handles information related to your use of the app. Last updated: October 28, 2026.
1. No Personal Data Collection
We do not collect, store, or have access to any personal data. Helios has no accounts and no servers of its own. Solar and lunar calculations — including sunrise, sunset, golden hour, twilight, and moon phases — are performed entirely on your device.
2. Location Data
Helios may request access to your device's location to calculate solar and lunar events for your current position. Your location is never sent to us. To show weather-based light forecasts, maps, and search results, Helios sends the coordinates of the place you are viewing to the services described in section 4. You can grant or revoke location permission at any time in your iOS Settings.
3. Camera Access
The Live Viewfinder feature requires access to your device's camera. Camera data is processed entirely on-device in real time and is never stored, recorded, or transmitted anywhere.
4. Services Helios Connects To
Sun and moon calculations, the timeline, the Live Viewfinder, and the light meter run entirely on your device. A few features need data from outside services: Apple Weather (WeatherKit) for the weather behind the light forecast; Apple Maps for place search, maps, and Look Around; and Mapbox for terrain, 3D buildings, and the shadow map. These requests are made directly from your device and include the coordinates of the place you are viewing, along with the network information any internet request carries, such as your IP address. They never pass through us, and each provider handles them under its own privacy policy. The Mapbox SDK may also collect anonymous usage data under Mapbox's policy.
5. Purchases & Subscriptions
In-app purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, process, or store any payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs any data collected during the purchase flow. You can review Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy.
6. No Third-Party Analytics or Advertising
Helios does not use any third-party analytics, advertising networks, crash reporting services, or tracking SDKs. Apart from the requests described in section 4, Helios does not share any data with third parties.
7. iCloud Sync
Helios uses iCloud to sync your saved locations and preferences across your Apple devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is not accessible to us. iCloud sync is governed by Apple's privacy policy and can be disabled at any time in your iOS Settings under iCloud → Helios. 8. Notifications
If you enable notifications, Helios schedules them locally on your device. No notification content or delivery data is sent to us or any external server.
9. Children's Privacy
Helios does not collect any data from users of any age. Since we collect no personal information, there are no special restrictions related to use by children.
10. Security
Because Helios has no servers of its own, we hold none of your data. We encourage you to keep your device and iOS software up to date to ensure the security of data stored locally on your device.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective immediately upon posting. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Your continued use of Helios after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
